The Stout Bar has recently opened where the Rathmines Inn was previously located. We stopped in there last Friday night for a refreshing beverage and to check it out. To be honest, it's a big empty shed with the ubiquitous dark wood of the Celtic tiger and the lack of atmosphere.
I got a bit of a surprise when I was charged E5.80 for a pint bottle of Bulmer's Pear. I don't know if the recent Bulmer's price reduction covers the Pear range but even so, E5.80 is just too much.

I agree 5.80 is expensive, but I think the place looks a lot better with hanging baskets outside and fresh paint, and lots of choice on the menu.Staff are friendly and efficient.I think the place will take a few months to get off the ground;we need more ppl that are willing to take a chance on a new enterprise when the pub trade and the irish economy is in the state its in.Submitted by a satisfied customer.
I agree with you about the fact that it is good to see entrepreneurship. The pub does look well from the outside, but the fitout inside is dull and has no cosiness about it. It doesn't match with the traditional facade.
Pubowners now have a chance to create unique places, with a vibe (Think of the GBS on Richmond St). They are finally free from the bland constraints of the celtic tiger. Unfortunately, I don't think that the owners of Stout Bar have created anything unique or memorable.
